Trakehner/Arabian Warmblood
NZWBA 3666 / AHSA AWS 168 / AWHA 64 02 200 023 96      1996  16.2hh

Sire: Falkensee (Ger.) (Chopstick x Famina IV)
Dam: Nell Gwynne (Polarschnee (imp Ger./exp NZ) x Nice ‘N’ Sweet xx)

Nordstern is the only stallion of the Falkensee/Nell Gwynne mating.

He is registered with the Arabian Horse Society of Australia, Ltd (AHSA) as an Arabian Warmblood and as a Trakehner with the New Zealand Warmblood Breeders Association (NZWBA). He is also accepted into the Australian Warmblood Horse Association (AWHA) Studbook Appendix.

Nordstern’s sire, Falkensee, was licensed by the German Trakehner Verband before his export to New Zealand. In New Zealand he was initially passed by the NZWBA as a Studbook Stallion. He was subsequently unpgraded to Principal Studbook Stallion status through the performance of his progeny, who are competing and winning at high levels in dressage and eventing.

Falkensee is 25% Thoroughbred on his sire’s side. His TB grandisre, Deadly Nightshade, traces to the great TB  stallions Nasrullah, Court Martial and My Babu.

Nordstern’s dam, Nell Gwynne (dec), was classified as a mature broodmare in 1990 by Hans Britze of the German Trakehner Verband. Her score was 74%, making her the highest scoring daughter of Polarschnee at any NZ Warmblood mare classification.

Both Falkensee and Polarschnee were bred on dual dressage/jumping lines.

Polarschnee as the sire of Jagermeister II, eventing medallist for New Zealand at the Atlanta Olympics. Polarschnee himself was a brilliant showjumper when campaigned in Australia by Vicki Roycroft.

Primarily through Polarschnee, Nordstern carries 10.66% Arabian blood in his pedigree. Polarschnee’s paternal grand-dam was the Arabian mare 205 Kuhaylan Zaid. Nordstern also carries the blood of the Arabian stallion Fetysz on both sides of his pedigree.

Nordstern was selected for our stud because of his correct conformation, outstanding paces and his intelligence and trainable temperament. He is a tall and powerful horse, but also very elegant, and his paces are light and fluid. He’s an overall ‘nice guy’ as a horse - good looking, athletic, has a brain and good manners. What more could any mare want?

Nordstern was shown twice in Spring 2000 to be named Champion Arabian Derivative Stallion/Colt at St Ives Spring Show and Champion Arabian Warmblood Exhibit at the Crabbet Arabian Show.

Stud Fee
Nordstern will not be available to outside mares in the 2003/2004 season. He will be bred to the stud’s mares early in the season and will then begin preparation for his much delayed competition career.
