The broodmares are the heart of every great stud. The Alhambra Stud was built with the gradual acquisition of quality Arabian, Thoroughbred and Warmblood mares - the stallions came much later. Many of our foundation mares have passed on, but most have left us daughters and grand-daughters which are the nucleus of our current breeding herd. Our Pure Arabian mares are descendants of some of the greatest names in Australian Arabian breeding. Among them are Banderol grand-daughters and great grand-daughters, Stefan (imp UK) daughters and grand-daughters, Milex (imp Sw) and Ralvon Pilgrim daughters and grand-daughters and Bask (USA) and Oran grand-daughters. These are bloodlines which prove themselves over and over again by producing top performing saddle horses. Our Thoroughbred mares have been selected carefully over the years. The bloodlines we treasure are those of Ovaltine, Souvenir and Crown Law. We have daughters or grand-daughters of each of these stallions in our breeding program. Our Warmblood mares are primarily of Trakehner and Holsteiner breeding. Early influences in the stud were the stallions Flaneur, Wesuw and Zwion. The fantastic jumping bloodlines of the Trakehner stallion Polarschnee were introduced into the stud in 1999 through two of his grand-daughters.
