Show News The stud’s own show team as been very quiet for the last few months due to off-stud work pressures.
At the Victorian Arabian Classic (March 2001) the 2yo fillies Alhambra Autumn Colours (Arabian Park Designate x Romantic Angel) (Anglo) and Alhambra Veronique (BP Rimski x Alhambra Marsanne (dec)) (Arabian Warmblood) made their showring debuts. Both placed well in strong company.
At Bathurst Royal Show (April 2001), Veronique took out Champion Arabian Warmblood Exhibit.
The Victorian Classic was the first show Alhambra Pennant (Alhambra Classic Wind x Icecream Phoenix) with his new owner Michelle Pazourek. They’d only been together for two weeks before the show, so it was wonderful to see them take out 3rd Novice Derivative Gelding over 15hh and 1st Intermediate Derivative Gelding over 15hh.
In May Pennant and Michelle made their dressage debut at the Catani Dressage Club’s unofficial competition to take out 1st in the Preliminary 1D test with a score of 72%. At their second competition on June 11 they placed first in the 1E test with 77.31% and second in the 1B with 75.19% - scores good enough to win them the Preliminary Championship on the day
In Queensland the show circuit is in full swing and the Anglo filly Alhambra Madrigal (Alhambra Classic Wind x Madeleine) has made her show debut for her new owners Cindy and Stuart Ross of Gympie.
At Gympie Show she won her Anglo filly class and was Reserve Champion Arabian Derivative. At Maleny Show she thrilled us all by winning her Maiden and Novice galloway classes and taking out Champion Novice Galloway.
On The Move Stuart and Cindy have recently acquired the lovely Riding Pony stallion Rotherwood Windswept (imp UK) and couldn’t resist the temptation to breed Madrigal to him. She’ll continue her halter and show career until October and then take a year off for motherhood duties.
So, who could take her place in the show team for Cindy? The answer was simple - another Alhambra-bred Anglo filly. Alhambra Autumn Colours made the trip to Gympie to join the Ross show team in July.
Two Alhambra horses have recently left the stud heading for endurance careers with their new owners.
Part Arabian mare Alhambra Miss Magic (Magic Prophecy x Dandaringa Radiant Glow) has joined the endurance team of Janet and Craig Fleming of Oak-Glen Stud in the Hunter Valley. Purebred gelding Alhambra Jazz Dancer (Belbowrie Sorcerer x Arabian Park Minuet) has formed an endurance partnership with Ray Griffiths of Kangy Angy on the NSW Central Coast.
Three of the stud’s youngsters fell into horse heaven in early July when they made the move from snowy Oberon to the balmy pleasures of Kyogle on the NSW Far North Coast. Partbred filly Alhambra Miss Squiggle (Kareel Pasha x Amair), Anglo gelding Alhambra Sierra (Magic Prophecy x Alhambra Tanami) and Purebred gelding Alhambra Medici (El Damascus (iid USA) x Alhambra Alaine) will become family pleasure horses for Ian and Anne Thomasson and their daughter Julie. Lucky guys - a full-time sunshine holiday! Ann reports they’ve settled in well to their new surroundings and Ian will soon commence their saddle education. |
